I also found page after page of discussions about how to fix the problem, but most of it doesn't make sense to me. I downloaded the new driver but to no avail. I did a search a came up with this which is a link to a reported problem and fix from WD. I've pulled an absolute blank as to when I updated, could have been a couple of months ago, and since I haven't used the hard drive in a few months it would make sense that I'm only experiencing the problem now.

I did a search around and it seems the problem is related to an update to 10.9 on my Mac. I've had a WD 1TB (WDBBXV0010BBK-01) since around 2012 and have had no problems up until the last few days.
